Work zones are incredibly dangerous and a hot spot for distraction. It’s easy to engage in destructive actions and not realize that you could be putting yourself in danger, especially in a work zone. Below is a list of the top five driving behaviors that cause work zone related accidents.

The top five contributing circumstances for work zone crashes in 2011 were:

• Following too close
• Not paying attention
• Improper lane usage/change
• Driving too fast for conditions
• Failure to yield

These are common behaviors and something that I’m sure you’ve seen or maybe even caught yourself doing. If you notice drivers doing any of these things, especially if you’re driving through a work zone, you want to make sure to steer clear of them to try and avoid causing a work zone related car crash. The above conditions are even more dangerous for the workers in the construction zone as they are vulnerable to being hit when they are working in close proximity to traffic.
